Tips for Swimming Success

Lane Etiquette

Masters swimming can be great fun and exercise, and here are some tips to help make the most of this wonderful experience:
  • Swim in a lane where you can make the intervals
  • Do the prescribed set, unless you warn others
  • Keep paddle-wearing to a minimum on non-pull sets
  • Arrive early for morning workout to help set-up the pool
  • Help pull lane lines and/or covers after workout when necessary
  • Put away your kickboard, pull buoy, or any other gear you may have used
  • Be conscious of those swimming in front of and/or behind you
  • If you would like to alter the set, get consensus from your lane mates
  • Circle swim when there are 2 or more swimmers per lane
  • If you are leading a set, make sure your lane mates are aware of when you intend to leave
  • Leave at least 5 seconds apart
  • When you finish, move to the side to allow swimmers behind you to reach the wall
